We buy from small workshops in the Czech Republic, Portugal, Turkey and Japan. Here is what each material is good at.
Fired hot, so it is dense and chip-resistant. Goes in the dishwasher, oven and microwave. Reactive glazes vary from piece to piece.
Thin, light and bright white under the glaze. The easiest to stack and the choice for a formal table. Dishwasher safe.
Unglazed or lightly glazed red clay. Holds heat well, so it suits oven dishes and stews. Hand-wash and dry fully.
Cut from pruned branches, never felled trees. Good for dry snacks and bread. Wipe clean and oil now and then.
Before there was a shop there was a kitchen in Vinohrady with too many cups, all bought on trips, none of them matching. Friends kept asking where they came from. In 2019 we rented a small stall at Manifesto Market and sold out of Portuguese stoneware in a weekend.
Today we run a showroom in Palladium and this website. We still visit every workshop we buy from, and we still keep the mismatched shelf. It is where new products get tested for six months before we list them.
What we look for is simple: pieces that survive a real dishwasher, a real family and a real Sunday lunch, and still look good on the table afterwards.
See what passed the testThree habits that make the difference between plates that last two years and plates that last twenty.
Sudden temperature changes are what crack ceramics. Take a dish out of the oven, wait ten minutes, then wash.
Glaze scratches glaze. A folded napkin or felt divider between plates in the cupboard prevents the grey marks.
Unglazed terracotta absorbs detergent and will taste of it. Hot water and a brush are enough. Dry upside down.
We photograph our sets with real food and real crumbs. The mark of a good plate is how a piece of roast chicken looks on it, not how it looks empty. If you are furnishing a first flat or replacing a set that has finally given up, start with dinner plates and bowls and build from there.
Not sure what fits your kitchen? Bring a photo of your table to the showroom and we will lay out a few options.

“Bought the Midnight Blue set for our new flat in Karlín. Two years of daily use and dishwashing and not a single chip. The colour is darker than the photos in daylight, which I prefer.”
“The clay casserole is heavy, as expected, but the stew it makes is worth it. Staff at Palladium explained the seasoning step properly, which the leaflet didn't.”
“Espresso cups arrived well packed to Vienna in three days. One saucer had a slightly different pattern to the others, which I think is the point. Would have liked a gift box option.”
Stoneware and porcelain, yes. Terracotta clay and olive wood should be hand-washed. Tea glasses with gilt bands are dishwasher safe on a low-temperature cycle but not microwave safe. Each product page states this clearly.
For most stoneware and porcelain sets, yes. Email us the set name and the piece you need and we will check stock. Handmade sets are one-off batches and single replacements are not always possible.
Each plate is wrapped in paper and set in moulded pulp inserts, then boxed with a cardboard outer. We do not use foam or bubble wrap. If anything arrives broken, send us a photo within 48 hours and we replace it.
We ship to all EU countries. Delivery to Slovakia, Austria, Germany and Poland takes 3–5 working days; the rest of the EU 5–8 working days. Shipping cost is calculated by weight at checkout.
Reactive glazes move in the kiln, so colour, speckling and drips vary between pieces and between batches. The photo shows one example. If you need a closer match to something you already own, visit the showroom or ask us for photos of the current batch.
The showroom is on the second floor of Palladium, next to the food hall entrance.
